CARNTL was proposed by Dr. Prem Mohan Mishra to develop a culture of research among students and teachers of Mithilanchal.

Nanotechnology is the study of applied science, engineering and technology, which helps students create technologically advanced devices of the varying nano-range in several fields. Many refer to it as the science of the miniature that ultimately leads to the creation of future technology. This is comparatively a new phenomenon across the world. India and other countries believe that this field has an ability to change the face of 21st century, making great contributions to a wide range of industrial applications as covered by science and technology.

India is making remarkable advancement in the field of education and science & technology like always are the areas of highlight. Today, the country is exploring some new dimensions in this field and it is called the nanotechnology. A few colleges in India have already started offering special nanotechnology courses for aspiring students. And as the demand for this course is on a constant rise, one can certainly expect to see the emergence of numerous top nanotechnology colleges in India in near future.

Keeping in view the paucity of such research centre in this region of India, L. N. Mithila University came forward to establish a high level research centre in the University Department of Chemistry.

The etablishment of the Centre of Advanced Research in Nano Science and Technology (CARNT) in our L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga, - is the historic event. To my mind Nano-technology is a sort of biomimicry. Undoubtedly Nano Science is the study of structures and materials on the scale of nanometres. Its quite simple, when structures of materials are made small enough- in the range of nanometre size- they can take on interesting and useful properties. Since technology is itself the application of science, Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on an atomic, molecular and supramolecular scale. It is something wonderful. One nanometre is a billionth of a metre i.e. 10-9 of a metre. There are 25,400,000 nanometres in an inch. A sheet of newspaper is about 100,000 nanometres thick. Therefore, I, on behalf of the university welcome you all to this land of wonders of Nano Science and Nanotechnology.

I wish for its grand success.

Vice-Chancellor

Prof. Surendra Pratap Singh

Welcome to the Centre for Advanced Research in Nano Science and Technology (CARNT) CARNT is a unique multidisciplinary research institute devoted to conducting, supporting, and encouraging Nano Science in this area of India. As director of CARNT, I envision our Institute as part of a vital strategy to invest in this field of research that may defy today’s traditional academic classification.  Tomorrow’s challenges demand innovative and unconventional approaches that cross or dissolve the boundaries of classic disciplines.  Faculty in CARNT shall work on modern-day problems that lie at the intersection of material science, mathematics, physics, Biology, medicine, economics and engineering.  I hope our unique and flexible research facility will be home to some of the largest and smallest experiments on our campus CARNT shall remain a vibrant and active intellectual community that spans multiple departments and colleges throughout the LNMU and Mithilanchal.  Our diversity of expertise will be matched by a shared culture of excellence and a common appreciation for interdisciplinary collaboration. 2016 seems an impressive year for research at LNMU with announcement of CARNT and recognition of scientists’. We promise continued making strides forward in translating our research to the public.CARNT shall start with the area of fabrication of nanomaterials with the resources available locally and shall gain recognition on global platform in short span.
